How the conversion works

How peptide reconstitution math works

In teaching labs and published methods, researchers often dissolve a known mass of peptide in a known volume of diluent, then describe how much of that solution corresponds to a target mass. The arithmetic is concentration literacy, not a use instruction.

The educational formula behind this calculator is:

  1. Convert vial amount to micrograms: mg × 1,000 = mcg
  2. Concentration: total mcg ÷ diluent mL = mcg per mL
  3. On a U-100 scale, 1 mL = 100 units, so mcg per unit = (mcg per mL) ÷ 100
  4. Target amount to units: desired mcg ÷ mcg per unit = units

Worked educational example

Suppose a teaching example uses 5 mg of peptide material and 2 mL of diluent, and asks how many U-100 units correspond to a 250 mcg target amount. Plug the same numbers into the calculator above to check your hand math.

Step 1: 5 mg × 1,000 = 5,000 mcg total

Step 2: 5,000 mcg ÷ 2 mL = 2,500 mcg/mL

Step 3: 2,500 ÷ 100 = 25 mcg per U-100 unit

Step 4: 250 mcg ÷ 25 = 10 units (0.10 mL on the U-100 scale)

Changing diluent volume changes concentration. Doubling the diluent halves mcg per mL and halves mcg per unit, so the same target amount maps to twice as many syringe units. That relationship is why reconstitution math is taught carefully in research literacy settings.

Common mistakes when reading calculator outputs

  • Treating syringe units as if they were milligrams. Units are volume marks on a U-100 scale.

  • Assuming a larger syringe changes what one unit means. On U-100, one unit remains 0.01 mL.
